The number of novel coronavirus cases in India has climbed to 1,190 after around 50 fresh cases were recorded on Monday morning. The death toll due to Covid-19, meanwhile, has crossed the 30-mark.
The total number of Covid-19 cases stands at 1,190 at 1 pm on Monday, while 98 people have been either cured or discharged and another death in West Bengal and Gujarat, taking the death toll to 32. Maharashtra, the worst hit, has reported the most deaths (six) so far, followed by Gujarat (six), Karnataka (three), and Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir (two each). Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have reported a death each.
Maharashtra and Kerala remain the states with the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country.
The highest number of confirmed cases of the pandemic has been reported fromMaharashtra with 215 infections so far, followed by Kerala at 202. Karnataka has reported 83 cases till now, while the number of cases has gone up to 70 in Telangana.
Uttar Pradesh and Delhi has reported 72 cases, Gujarat 69, while the number of cases in Rajasthan has climbed to 60.
Tamil Nadu on Monday saw 17 new cases. The state tally which was at 50 on Sunday now stands at 67.
Punjab has reported 39 cases, while 35 Covid-19 cases have been detected inHaryana. There are 41 cases of coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir, followed byMadhya Pradesh (47), Andhra Pradesh(21), West Bengal (21) and Ladakh (13).
Bihar has 15 cases, while 10 cases have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Chandigarh has eight cases, while Chhattisgarh andUttarakhand have reported seven cases so far.
Goa has reported five coronavirus cases, while Himachal Pradesh and Odisha have reported three cases each. Puducherry,Mizoram and Manipur have reported a case each.
No plan to extend 21-day lockdown, says govt
The government on Monday said there was no plan to extend the 21-day lockdown which came into force on Tuesday midnight.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting tweeted, saying Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has denied media reports claiming that the government will extend the lockdown.
"There are rumours & media reports, claiming that the Government will extend the #Lockdown21 when it expires. The Cabinet Secretary has denied these reports, and stated that they are baseless," it said.
The 21-day lockdown is aimed at checking the spread of the coronavirus.
Following the lockdown, there has been a massive exodus of migrant workers from big cities to their villages after being rendered jobless.
The government had on Sunday carried out a comprehensive review of the situation arising out of coronavirus pandemic including treatment of affected people, movement of thousands of migrant labourers and supplies of petroleum products and essential commodities across the country under the nation-wide lockdown.
State borders to be closed; migrants to be put in quarantine
The Centre on Sunday asked the state governments and Union Territory administrations to effectively seal state and district borders to stop the movement of migrant workers, who will be put in 14-day quarantine at destinations.
During a video conference with the state chief secretaries and DGPs, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla asked them to ensure that there is no movement of people across cities or on highways as the lockdown continues.
"There has been movement of migrant workers in some parts of the country.
